The idea of the project

A Culture House is an area not fully defined. We decided to arrange a space that would be a response to the needs of the inhabitants of Rzeszów, giving them the role of space creators so that they could give themselves a function that surrounds them. This is how a place was created, place which does not impose itself, but only has tools that allow users to create space they need, giving it aesthetics and function depending on the vision. The ideal building turned out to be a function-less production hall, where many Polish trains were built over the years. This place is adjacent not only to the railway station, but also to the housing estate within which there are no cultural places. In addition, it is located in the city center, making it an easily accessible place not only for Rzeszów, but also for tourists.

The idea of Culture House is the creation of space depending on the needs of the user. Railway rails running from the entrances along the hall form the basis for special movements constructions allowing for moving light screens that represent places of displaying the creativity of Rzeszów. These screens can be a place for displaying paintings, or be completely painted over by the artist, creating a kind of large-format work. At the same time, the possibility of changing their position makes this place unique, constantly changing, because it can be created by every visitor according to their own vision - due to this the space will never look the same. The screens' movement systems guarantee safety due to the brakes that prevent the partition walls from being too fast. Elements complementing the aesthetics of the interior are white cubic seats that can be combined, moved or moved depending on the concept. Thanks to them, the room gains not only a functional dimension, but also a note of modernity brought by the simplicity of form and colour.

The hall is renewed by removing plaster walls and renovating damaged bricks. Replacing the windows with a new one will increase the thermal insulation of the room. Deep channels serving mechanics for train repairs were built with a glass pane to ensure the safety of visitors, without losing the charm of the place, and giving it a fresh, modern breath. The creation of the space by the user is understood by us not only as an influence on the aesthetics of the place, but above all on the creation of its function depending on the needs and visions. According to the concept, everyone can hang their picture here, or do a photo exhibition. A young artist can organize a show of his latest fashion collection here, or display a recorded document, which he would like to share with people. We want to create a place that will allow young people to interact with culture on a daily basis, but above all, we want to give young creators a space in which they will be able to share their creativity, create art, and participate in its existence.

We decided to modify the outer space by dismantling the roofs of the remaining halls and demolishing some of the walls, to gain an unusual space resembling a part of the labyrinth. On some of the walls there are display cases that are the place of the art exhibition, while others have white screens that can be used to display various films or presentations, and thus a kind of outdoor cinema. The crossover oriented in the centre of the semi-circular courtyard is the central point of the system, a shallow pond with a transition and a stage in the form of a round glass platform. The existing track structure was used as a basis for a specific bridge, after which the locomotives once entered the crossover. The turning system of the crossover has been recreated, which allows to manipulate the position of the stage and crossings to the main building. The semi-circular courtyard between the pond and the outline of the inner walls of the former hall complex has been covered with gravel, which allows free movement between numerous seats in the form of white cubes. Atypical installation of pipes running along the outer wall of the hall complex has been specially renovated and used in two places as an unusual circular fountain. The water flowing down from the pipes to the narrow troughs below generates a noise that allows you to calm down, conducive to contemplation of art and rest.
